Vidor Csaky PALACE

In these richly decorated chambers, the daily life of the family of Count Csaky Vidor once took place. In addition to his several other sites in Vienna and Budapest the palace was designed for the Count by the architect Heinrich Adam from Vienna. In 1892 the neo-baroque style was flourishing, therefore the splendid palace boasted details on the street frontage and also in the interior. In the first half of the twentieth century the so-called Bata section and later warehouses were added to the building. The palace was then operated as a clinic for decades, involving distinctive socialist interventions. After long years of neglect, total reconstruction came when the palace became the black sheep of the street. A thorough cleaning removed deposits of the malignant past and enhanced all the preserved stucco, wood, wrought iron, stained glass and etched glass elements. To the figurative lyricism of these elements were added subtle inventions conceived in the current style of reduced expressive aesthetics. The new building in the courtyard is now connected with the original building by bridge and the attic has been converted into office space.
