City pavilion

After 2001, when the significant figure of the Tatracentrum building became a part of the city centre, a line between the hotel Crown plaza (formerly Forum) and a new object looked even more genderless than ever before. Šmondrk therefore initiated an attempt to convert a crucial, sensitive point into a lively urban area with enjoyable content. At the place where Poštová street runs into Hodžovo square he replaced the long-deteriorating terrace standing above the entrance to the pedestrian underpass with a quadratic object containing a passageway and three levels with a roof terrace. For a facade he chose a pattern composed of two materials. He designed the facing turned towards Hodžovo square to incorporate black stone, complemented here and there with glass. The transparency culminates on the facade overlooking Poštová street, which is completely clear while incorporating the function of a scrolling LED information display. The whole pavilion should serve as an information point about cultural and social happenings in the city, where people could buy tickets to events or just sit in the comfort of the café and watch the rush of the city.
